Money has no place in many of life's joys. What we think is expensive can actually be obtained for very little if you do it the right way. Here are five things you can do to increase your joy as you meander from place to place:

It can be easy to conflate surfing with wealth especially if you grew up in a cold place where only the privileged travel to tropical shores. Surfing lessons and boards can be expensive but that's not that only way to go. You may be able to rent a board from an entrepreneurial surfer for an hour or two and teach yourself.

Or, as we peasants call it, "eating." Skip the expensive restaurants and gather local ingredients to experiment with flavors and textures. Better yet, share the cooking and eating with people around you.

Walking or biking around the city is an endless source of intrigue and free from financial cost, aside from a beverage or snack you might indulge in on the way. Great exercise, too.
